In her 13th appearance, 12th-seeded Petra Kvitova defeated seventh-seeded Elena Rybakina in a marathon tiebreaker to win the Miami Open 7-6 (14), 6-2 on Saturday.
Rybakina's 13-match winning streak was snapped by 33-year-old Kvitova, who was 10 years older than her opponent. This put an end to Rybakina's attempt to win the Sunshine Double (Indian Wells and Miami Open).
Lefty Kvitova won her 30th WTA singles title with a determined victory, steadfast defense, and a sensational forehand winner on the dead run that electrified the crowd in the second set.
Kvitova raised her arms and put her hands on her head after Rybakina hit a forehand that was long on match point. She was broken only once in the match. She made her 41st appearance at the WTA Finals, but this was her first final in Miami.
